Harrison's Baptism

Funny boys with their mighty muscles.

These young ladies provided much of the musical needs for the baptism. Olivia Roane and Kennedy were the choisters and Kimi and Kennedy played an original piano number that they wrote, "Baptism Dance". They will record it for us and I wil try to attach it to this post. It was very sweet and so thoughtful.

Peace Play

Jackson's class has been studying peace this year. As a class they discussed ways that they, as individuals, could make a difference in their communities. The class presented their ideas and studies in an original play. The following two photos are Jackson and Tucker poised and ready to begin their "sign language" interpretation of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". And no, they don't know sign language.  I really like Jackson's bedazzled jacket.

The eighth graders:

The eighth grade class, each being individually recognized by one of their guides, Susan.   This was Jackson's turn.  Susan commented on his strong sense of justice and his enormous love of trees.  And his love of her dog, Lela.

Chicks, Chicks, Everywhere

Here is PowerChick, PC for short, longing for some company. Why won't these chicks hatch?

Harrison and I took a fieldtrip to a hatchery in Hubbard where he asked a lot of questions about incubating eggs and where oh where had we gone wrong...

This is one of their many incubators that holds hundreds of eggs. This hatchery incubates 6 million eggs a year. WOW! For every dozen eggs they incubate, they get 10 chicks.

Well, our hatchery guide said Harrison had taken great care of his eggs and she was surprised he didn't have a better success rate. She suggested that we try again. To that I said, " We'll just take some chicks please." Harrison thought we needed some turkeys so two of our baby chicks are a bit larger than the others. Aren't they just adorable.

Harrison's Independent Research Project

Harrison decided to do chicken incubation as his independent research project. Three weeks ago he chose some eggs from our hens and put them in our homemade incubator.  The eggs needed to be at kept at 100 degrees and 50% humidity and also needed to be turned 3-5 times a day.  The markings on the eggs indicate which eggs Harrison thinks are fertilized and growing after candling them.  WOW, who chose this project?

Who knew our family vacation would occur during this project?  After finding an adapter for the lilght, the eggs made a journey to Sunriver with us.

At 4 Am this morning I heard some very LOUD chirping.  We have a chick!  Yes, I did wake Harrison up so that he could enjoy the show.

The chick, PowerChick, is now fluffy and happy to be out of that shell.

One out of 12?  Not sure those are good odds at all.  What are we going to do with ONE chick?

Anybody want a chick?

SUNRIVER

May 21-May 23 we ventured out to one of our most favorite spots, Sunriver.

We made a few stops along the way.  One stop was:

It's a long way down.

And the wind was just whipping up the dam and over the top of us.

For those of you without boys, or are faint of heart, please skip this next photo.  If you were a boy staring into the wind, what would you do?  Spit of course.  Jackson and Jefferson had a great time seeing who could get their spit the farthest behind them.  Clever boys. Here are the boys trying to follow their spit over their heads...
First thing Harrison finds is a chipmunk hill that is just calling for a fort:
We did a lot of biking:
Down to the Marina and stables:
And look who we found at the stables, just coming back from a one hour ride:

This is how you stand after an hour on a horse:
Getting ready for a bike ride to the park for a little three-on-three hoops:
Yes, the boys won by a close victory and our favorite quote from the game came from Harrison after an injury, "I can't go back!"  Oh the drama.
Silly girls on bikes:

On our way home we stopped at Lava Lands:

The following picture is an ode to the chipmunk:
Kennedy on top of the Lava Butte Cinder Cone:
We made one more stop in Bend at Joe's going out-of-business sale.  Look what we came home with, a Leatherman display case and...
A trailer of course!
Heading into Sisters:
A must stop at Sno-Cap for some ice cream:

Two hours into the drive home Jackson pulls out a little something that he purchased at the North Store in Sunriver on one of his many bike explores;

He was so pleased with himself.

We had a delightful time!

That 70's hair

I swear when I took Jackson to school it was 2009 and when I picked him up it was 1978. Who knew?!!?!

Father Son Campout

I am not a fan of the Father Son camp out. The boys return home with stories of neglect, total lack of supervision, zero planning, no structure or activities. Therefore, boys happen. Nothing good comes from these activities, think Lord of the Flies. Anyway, these photos were a highlight on this trip. Boys around the campfire roasting marshmellows. Photo taken before marshmellows caught on fire and then where whipped in the air....

Ian Roane covered with roasted marshmellow face...Heaven.

Word has it that there will not be any more Father Son camp outs as long as Bishop Chandler is bishop :) He's not a fan either!
